New Addition to Our Media Practice

JASEC Consulting would like to welcome award-winning Los Angeles Times reporter and editor Bob Baker to our team of media professionals. Bob brings more than 35 years of experience, most of it from one of the nation’s top newsrooms. At the Times he reported on front-page stories for 12 years and served as a Metro editor for another 14 years.

During his tenure on the city desk, Bob played a key role in shaping the coverage of history-making Los Angeles events, including the 1992 Riots, the O.J. Simpson trial, and the clergy sexual abuse scandal in the Roman Catholic Church. He is a veteran of breaking news, including the Northridge earthquake and the Rodney King beating. Bob has been one of the most sought out editors among reporters, both for his keen critical thinking skills on communicating complex issues and for his superb writing and editing talent.

Bob is also the author of "Newsthinking: The Secret of Making Your Facts Fall Into Place," a book on mental organization for journalists, and co-author with a legendary R&B deejay of "Burn, Baby! BURN! The Autobiography of Magnificent Montague." He also runs the four-year-old internet site newsthinking.com. The site focuses on one of the biggest problems of deadline journalism work – the lack of organizational coherence. Too many reporters – and too many people in general –don't methodically organize their material before they begin writing. They start typing too soon. His site is dedicated to examining those moments between reporting and writing, and showing successful strategies.

Bob’s experience and tactical knowledge of journalism and writing will be immeasurable in helping clients determine the best strategy to use in the course of their media interactions. You can also visit his website at www.newsthinking.com
